Medical School Activities

As part of our academic mission, University Radiology physicians established and direct the Residency and the Vascular/Interventional Radiology Fellowship programs at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where they serve as the radiology faculty and research arm. In addition to serving on staff at the university's hospital, 83 of our radiologists hold faculty appointments. Medical school activities include curriculum development and oversight, Resident and Fellow evaluation, recruitment and supervision, with 2 of our radiologists serving as Directors of the programs.

Each year, our radiologists create, and/or publish peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, abstracts, proceedings and invited presentations for the medical community. In addition, our radiologists routinely present at various weekly clinical subspecialty conferences, as well as at grand rounds and other clinical forums.

Professional Appointments

Assuming leadership roles in various state and national medical societies affords us further opportunities to shape the role of medicine's future. Our radiologists are very active in the radiologic and medical societies state-wide. Six of our physicians are former Presidents. One is past President of the Middlesex County Medical Society. Several other radiologists served on the Executive Committees of the Academy of Medicine of NJ and of the NJ Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. One radiologist is a past-President of NJIUM. One of our radiologists is a past-President of the American Association of Women Radiologists and another is former President of the AMSER (Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology). Imaging Staff & Credentials

At least one radiologist is on-site during the day at all University Radiology facilities. Five radiologists practice on-site at our East Brunswick facility. Each office is managed by an Administrative Technologist who works closely with the physicians and their staff to insure a smooth running office operation.

Radiologic Technologists are of critical importance to the success of the radiology team. All of our technologists are required to pass the NJ State Registry. In addition, each technologist attends on-going certification programs in their specialty area and participates in in-house clinical and administrative seminars.

Imaging Center Operations

Corporate policies and procedures are standardized across all imaging offices. Patients and referrers call one telephone number to schedule an appointment at any of the 20 locations. This centralized service assures patients of getting the next appointment slot available regardless of the office location, if they so desire. All facilities at University Radiology operate under the required local, state and federal licenses and regulations including those set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the operation of our Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment.

Quality Assurance, Licenses & Accreditation

University Radiology has a Quality Assurance Physicist on staff to monitor radiation output levels and radioisotope administration. Our on-going QA Program insures that all equipment is functioning properly, radiation levels are minimized and radioactive agents are dispensed and handled appropriately. Our mammography suites have been inspected and our operating procedures reviewed by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the toughest mammography accrediting body in the country. Our breast biopsy facilities are fully accredited by the ACR as Breast Centers of Excellence. The mammography facilities have also been inspected and approved by the State of NJ and Medicare. All of our facilities are designated Medicare Certified Mammography Screening Facilities.

The quality of the service we provide to patients and referring physicians is measured on an on-going basis. Each patient that provides an email address receives an electronic satisfaction survey to complete following their exam. Responses from all surveys are reviewed with University Radiology physicians and staff. Pertinent comments and suggestions are incorporated into the practice.

University Radiology has developed working relationships with numerous hospitals, referring physicians, managed care organizations, and clients. These relationships are very important to us. We take great care to insure that we are meeting the unique needs of each organization. Established physician-to-physician and staff-to-staff contact/liaison programs help us keep the lines of communication open.
